One sure way of creating abundance in your life is by being grateful. In everything give thanks, even for what you haven’t achieved yet.
For a long time I lived hand to mouth, paycheck to paycheck, and wondered how I just always had the bare minimum. Always just enough to meet my needs and a little extra to help my family. I was always giving thanks but still complained about what I didn’t have. Then I read something from Oprah; “I live in the space of thankfulness — and for that, I have been rewarded a million times over. I started out giving thanks for small things, and the more thankful I became, the more my bounty increased. That’s because — for sure — what you focus on expands. When you focus on the goodness in life, you create more of it.”.
This changed my life, and my bounty began to increase. My first car was a used Nissan Maxima with all kinds of things wrong with it. I used to look at other cars and wondered when I would be able afford a better car, but after the revelation from Oprah, I started giving thanks for my car. There were people who couldn’t afford a used car, so I considered myself blessed.
When I lived in a basement, I gave thanks for the shelter, for food on my table and shoes on my feet, even though I had about three pairs. I also walked around looking at houses and gave thanks for the one I didn’t have yet. Now I am living in it. I won’t tell you how many pairs of shoes I have right now or what car I drive, but my bounty increased more than 10 folds.
Gratitude is a must!!!
Giving Thanks Isn’t Always Easy
I must say, it isn’t always easy to give thanks. How does one give thanks when their business failed, and they lost thousands of dollars? How does one give thanks when they have been scammed out of their life savings? How does one give thanks when they lost $150k in the stock market? Of course, I didn’t give thanks for the losses? I wasn’t grateful for losing money. What I gave thanks for after I cried and beat up on myself, was the opportunity to be able to do all those things in the first place. I was blessed to be able to start my own business, I was blessed to have money to go into the stock market, and I was blessed to be able to move forward after all that loss. Most importantly, I gained knowledge from my experiences and for that I’m super grateful.
Remember Who Helped
A Vietnamese proverb says: “When eating fruit, remember the one who planted the tree.”
After I got divorced, I was filled with hurt, resentment, and anger. Mostly angry at myself for staying in an abusive relationship or even getting married in the first place. I didn’t want to live that way, so I began focusing on the good things I had in a bad relationship. My ex-husband paid a lot of the bills which allowed me to send my son to college. I was able to own a home in the first place through joint income, and I was able to save. For those things, I was grateful. Gratitude also helps us to heal.
“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” - Melodie Beattie
